Emotion Tracking (Stanford ME 310)
Length: two weeks
Topics Explored: biosensors, soft goods, Arduino programming, design of experiments
After experimenting with face mask expressiveness, my design team decided to continue to expand the idea of collecting and outputting information based on emotional state. This project focused on the use of Bitalino, an Arduino-based hardware/software package that is Bluetooth enabled and interfaces with various bio sensors, including:
With a combination of the sensors above, a phone app, as well as facial recognition software, a basic platform was created to measure a user's emotional trends over a defined time period.

After experimenting with face mask expressiveness, my design team decided to continue to expand the idea of collecting and outputting information based on emotional state. This project focused on the use of Bitalino, an Arduino-based hardware/software package that is Bluetooth enabled and interfaces with various bio sensors, including:
- EDA (Electrodermal Activity) - used to measure the galvanic skin response (level of alertness)
- EMG (Electromyography) - used to measure electrical activity in skeletal muscles (can recognize emotions through facial muscles)
- ECG (Electrocardiography) - used to measure heart rate (level of alertness)
With a combination of the sensors above, a phone app, as well as facial recognition software, a basic platform was created to measure a user's emotional trends over a defined time period.
